IS 11169 (Part 1) 27C15 is a Carbon Steel grade: Cold heading quality carbon steel 27C15 to IS 11169 (Part 1):1984, for quenching and tempering, supplied as wire, wire rod or bars of 2 to 100 mm diameter. Old designation 27Mn2. The standard was reaffirmed in 2004.
Typical applications: Manganese case-hardening steel; used for gears, shafts, and machine components requiring case hardening where higher core strength than plain carbon grades is needed.
